Should You Use Sage 100 In The Cloud?

There are both advantages and disadvantages to Sage 100 Cloud. At Ardent Consulting, we believe the advantages outweigh the disadvantages and encourage many of our clients to use Sage 100 Cloud as opposed to the on premises version.

Let’s talk about the advantages first.

Sage 100 can be hosted in the cloud (typically referred to as Sage 100 Cloud or Sage 100cloud) which, when done correctly, will reduce your company’s cost compared to the on premises solution. You no longer need an IT department. You don't need to worry about your servers crashing. You don't need to worry about your backups. The single best advantage to Sage 100 Cloud is the peace of mind. Somebody else takes responsibility for keeping your company on the latest version of Sage 100. They do all of the upgrades for you as well as all of the backups. In addition, given that the cloud is homogenous, you can add additional products with ease such as Microsoft Office.

We have quite a few clients that see the advantages to using Sage 100 Cloud. We are a big fan of this approach at Ardent Consulting but also want you to understand the potential disadvantages.

The most significant disadvantage is a change in cost structure. Instead of paying a higher fee one time for the use of Sage 100, you are now paying a lower monthly (or annual) fee on a per user basis. Using Sage 100 Cloud means you can reduce your technology costs but you will pay a per user fee. This is a scalable fee so it depends entirely on the number of users that have access to Sage 100 Cloud. While this can get costly as your business grows, if you have a small business today and want to control your operation with an effective Sage 100 solution then it makes a lot of sense to use it in the cloud.

In summary...

Sage 100 Cloud is accessible over the internet and offers a number of cost reductions from an IT perspective. Using this approach means your cost structure will change to a monthly or annual per user fee.

Most of our customers are small and medium sized businesses. They don’t want to worry about what happens to their daily operations if a server crashes or if IT maintenance was not done correctly. When you put Sage 100 in the cloud you don't have to worry about these items. You have more control over your business and the availability of the software you depend upon to efficiently operate every day.
